Where to Find Ohio River Bridges Project Information?

If you live anywhere near, or travel through, Louisville, Kentucky you probably know there's some major construction going on. It's causing major traffic delays and frustrating a lot of people. It's all because we're getting two new bridges in the are. We need them badly.

So what exactly is happening? First, there will finally be a new bridge on the east end of Louisville to finally connect the outer circle of highways, the Lee Hamilton in Indiana and the Gene Snyder in Kentucky. This is scheduled to be completed in 2016. You can find out more, and sign up for traffic alerts, at the project site, East End Crossing.

The second part of the project, and the biggest part right now, is the downtown work. The Kennedy bridge which carries Interstate 65, will be reworked. I-65 southbound will be the only traffic on this bridge, with six lanes. A new bridge will be built to carry I-65 northbound, also six lanes. Approaching roads on the Indiana side will be redesigned to allow for better traffic flow. Most importantly for those of us who have lived in the area, is the road work done on the Kentucky side. The infamous (and dangerous) "Spaghetti Junction" will be completely redesigned and rebuilt. It's about time! Construction began in 2013 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2016. This is where most of the frustration with traffic comes from, but it'll be worth it in the long run.Soon Spaghetti Junction will be just a bad memory. Find information and sign up for traffic alerts at Downtown Crossing.
